BAFTA is seeking a Fundraising & Development Manager to join the Los Angeles team.

  • Based in Los Angeles
  • Dual role supporting fundraising for BAFTA’s 195 Piccadilly Redevelopment Campaign in London and educational initiatives in Los Angeles
  • 12-month contract starting in July/August 2017

Our vision is to transform BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, London into the UK’s most distinguished international center for moving image excellence, which means bigger, more flexible spaces, and new state-of-the-art equipment in order to significantly enhance the scope of our events and activities.

In Los Angeles, BAFTA is seeking financial support to expand our acclaimed scholarship, education and community initiatives, allowing BAFTA to discover, support and nurture talented professionals from all walks of life, all with an international perspective that is supported further by the opportunities created by the redevelopment of 195 Piccadilly.

We now wish to recruit a Fundraising & Development Manager based in LA to lead on the cultivation of supporters and donors based in California. The post holder will report to BAFTA LA’s Chief Operating Officer and the Head of Fundraising in London, working closely with the senior teams of BAFTA and BAFTA LA.

The successful candidate will have extensive fundraising and communications experience, good knowledge or direct experience in the film, television and games industries and the ability to operate and deliver at the most senior level. He or she must be professionally astute, a creative thinker, graduate-level, competent with business and legal affairs and preferably, already well-connected in our industries. This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned fundraiser to work with a professional and prestigious team in the entertainment industry. The successful candidate will be a metrics-driven, major gift fundraiser, experienced in working with high-level prospects, ideally with experience with both 501(c)(3) organizations and UK Charities.

Fundraising Campaign brief:

  • Plan and execute strategies to achieve major gift goals
  • Create fundraising call (either cultivation or solicitation) preparatory materials for staff and volunteer leadership;
  • Conceptualize, plan and execute, with special events team, major donor and prospect events, including events in private residences, receptions, galas, etc.
  • Identify new prospects from a variety of sectors and work with staff to identify current donors to increase support and ensure a robust pipeline.
  • Research, identify, cultivate and inspire significant US industry and non-industry supporters
  • Research, identify and pursue major grant opportunities. 
  • Build relationships with US companies and major donors to support and deliver the strategic aims of the projects.
  • Make solicitations when appropriate.
  • Make 20-25 face-to-face prospect visits per quarter, alone or with staff and/or volunteer leadership. Calls will be a combination of prospect identification and qualification visits, cultivation visits, solicitations or gift closing meetings.
  • Maintain stewardship contacts and contractual deliverables with donors.
  • Draft funding reports and correspondence for major donors and prospects;
  • Act as a senior ambassador, supporter, mentor to others and a confident closer of supporter transactions.
  • Create contact reports in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with BAFTA’s Head of Fundraising, CEO and COO in London as well as the wider BAFTA volunteer team in delivering the funding requirements for the 195 Piccadilly project;
  • Support the BAFTA LA CEO, COO, and the VP of Partnerships with delivering funding requirements for the Los Angeles initiatives.

Person Specification:

  • Strong communication and ambassadorial skills;
  • Experience and understanding of fundraising and capital campaigns;
  • Ability to develop a vision and deliver objectives;
  • Strong professional and efficient work ethos;
  • Good knowledge of the film, television and games industries;
  • Confident in asking for donor support and closing transactions;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
