Freelance Short Film Distribution Coordinator

The Freelance Shorts Distribution and Rights Coordinator will be responsible for checking the BAFTA longlisted Short Films in 2017 for rights issues that would prevent that film from being distributed online and theatrically and resolving those issues where possible. They also will gather all the technical and press and marketing material together in readiness for the release.

RIGHTS CHECKING AND CLEARANCE

The candidate will check all longlisted short live action and short animation films (circa 40 films) for rights issues, which among other checks will focus on checking the films for appropriate level music clearance, source material and archive clips clearance. A good knowledge of rights clearance for films for theatrical and online is essential. Where an issue exists, the coordinator will resolve the issue through working with the filmmaker to find out who holds the rights and will help the filmmaker to negotiate a clearance. Where more complex issues exist the candidate will work with senior staff members and BAFTA’s freelance rights consultant expert to try to resolve the issue by the deadline of 6 December 2016. The candidate will follow up and check all rights paperwork is in place for longlisted films for an online and theatrical distribution deal.

TECHNICAL

The candidate will check that all longlisted films have been sent to BAFTA in the following formats: DCP, Digibeta, QuickTime ProRes or HDCAM SR with an audio track listing.

PRESS AND MARKETING

The candidate will check that all longlisted films have high res images, a suitable logline (100 words) and the candidates have provided biographies and headshots. Where there is missing information, the candidate will follow it up and ensure it is complete by 6 December 2016.

CONTRACTS

The candidate will issue ‘in principle’ contracts to longlisted  filmmakers and ensure that signed copies are with BAFTA by 6 December 2016.
