Portraits of winners and citation readers taken backstage at the Orange British Academy Film Awards in 2007
by official BAFTA photogrpaher Ian Derry
Ian Derry "It seems a very straightforward portrait of Forest Whitaker but in the circumstances it was anything but! I had created a studio along with Vanity Fair and Esquire where we shot the Bafta Nominees and winners. It was chaotic with so many publicists, PRs, A list celebs etc and then Forest just wandered in clutching his BAFTA for The King of Scotland. He had a bizarre air of calm and looked genuinely humbled and overjoyed with his award. Nobody with him just Forest wandering around with his BAFTA enjoying the night! When I was asked by BAFTA to shoot for them I wanted to light it in a slightly more old fashioned Hollywood style which I think you really get with this shot. It could have been taken 50 years ago or the present day."
