Credited as the world’s oldest living director, Werner was best known for making three highly acclaimed short films: Midvinterblot (1946), The Train (1948) and To Kill A Child (1952). While he continued to make shorts and documentaries, his preoccupations later turned to researching the film history of his native Sweden.
