An influential newspaper columnist for over 50 years, Waterhouse also wrote Billy Liar, which – along with Willis Hall – he adapted into a play, film (1963) and television series (1973). The pair also scripted Whistle Down The Wind (1961), A Kind of Loving (1962) and the television series Worzel Gummidge (1979-81).
