A distinguished Irish actor skilled at playing authority figures, McKenna was a regular guest star in television series from The Avengers (1964-88) to Ballykissangel (1996) with many in between. His films include Girl With Green Eyes (1964), Young Cassidy (1965), Straw Dogs (1971), Britannia Hospital (1982) and The Libertine (2004).
