An American actress synonymous with film noir, Totter made her screen debut in Main Street After Dark (1945) before gaining notice in The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946). Her classic roles came while under contract for MGM throughout the 1940s and included Lady in the Lake (1947) and Robert Wise’s The Set-Up (1949).
