A British actor who honed his craft performing Shakespeare on the stage, Holm became best known for his roles in Alien (1979) and The Lord or the Rings trilogy (2001-2003). He won BAFTAs for his roles in The Bofors Fun (1968) and Chariots of Fire (1981) and received four further nominations for his work across film and television.
