The BBC's long-serving newsman Simpson was their foreign affairs correspondent for radio and television until his retirement in 1998. Simpson excelled in reporting from dangerous locations throughout his career, including the Falklands war and first Gulf war, and was highly respected for his candid, 'no frills' reporting.
