A Dutch actor who delivered one of cinema’s most enduring monologues as Roy Batty in Blade Runner (1982), Hauer had made his Hollywood debut in Nighthawks (1981) and went on to star in The Hitcher (1986). He collaborated with director Paul Verhoeven on five films after meeting on the Dutch TV series Floris (1969).
