Ray joined the industry in the early fifties and worked at Ealing Film Studios during the Michael Balcon years as a Publicity Assistant. He then worked at Technicolor as a colour grader for many years before joining production as a 2nd Assistant Director in the early sixties.
Ray worked constantly as a 1st Assistant Director, Location Manager and Production Manager throughout the sixties, seventies and early eighties, working all over the world - South Africa, Hong Kong, Japan, Malta, Italy, Greece, Libya, Spain.
Ray went on to become an Associate Producer or Line Producer working on 'Reilly Ace of Spies', 'Van Der Valk', 'Sharpe', 'Inspector Morse', 'Kavannagh QC' and many other series and singles starring John Thaw in particular. He was producer Chris Burt's right hand man for nearly twenty years.
Ray's credits also include 'Follyfoot', 'Wombling Free', 'The Water Babies', 'The Eagle Has Landed', 'The 39 Steps', 'Shirley's World', 'Department S', 'Raise The Titanic', 'Lion of the Desert', 'Supergirl' and many more.
He was a big character in the industry and was known for his cigarette holder, snappy suits and Rolls-Royce.
