Philip Seymour Hoffman

22 July 1967 to 2 February 2014

An American actor who could imbue even the most unsympathetic character with a core of humanity, Hoffman was one of the profession’s greats. The versatile performer received five BAFTA nominations for Capote (2005), Charlie Wilson’s War (2007), Doubt (2008), The Ides of March (2011) and The Master (2012), winning for his remarkable portrayal of Truman Capote in the first of the five.
