A versatile comedy actor, Pertwee was best known for playing ARP Warden Hodges in Dad’s Army (1968-77), an officious character forever at odds with the pompous Captain Mainwaring. Also active on stage and radio (notably in Round The Horne), he appeared in other series such as You Rang M’Lord? (1988-93).
