An Indian actor best known in Britain for his BAFTA nominated role as a mixed-race family’s patriarch in East Is East (1999), Puri was also a successful Bollywood star in films including Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983) and Maqbool (2003). His English-language debut came in Gandhi (1982), and he notably starred in My Son the Fanatic (1997).
