A French character actor of quiet dignity and warmth, Noiret's biggest screen successes came in middle age. He was wonderful in Cinema Paradiso (1988) and excellent in Il Postino (1994). Other films in a varied career include The Night of The Generals (1967), Topaz (1969) and La Grand Bouffe (1973).
