A Scottish actor who was a familiar face in a succession of popular comedies, McColl was among the ensemble of the sketch show Laugh??? I Nearly Paid My Licence Fee (1984). He also had supporting roles in City Lights (1984-91) and – playing Rab’s pal Dodie – in Rab C. Nesbitt (1990-99).
