A popular star on the variety circuit, La Rue appeared in a succession of glamorous female guises in many major television shows, the nostalgic Looks Familiar (1973-82) and The Good Old Days (1974-80) prime among them. He also played the lead in the wartime comedy feature, Our Miss Fred (1972).
