A BAFTA winner for his documentary Tokyo Olympiad (1965), Ichikawa was a versatile director whose work embraced a wide range of genres. Internationally, his best known film is probably An Actor’s Revenge (1963), while others include The Burmese Harp (1956, which he remade in 1985), Kagi (1959) and Nobi (1959).
