An Irish actor whose career began on the stage, Ireland became best-known later in his career as Donald Stewart on ITV1’s Benidorm (2007-2014). He made his West End debut in Mr Laurel and Mr Hardy (1976) and was the artistic director of the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh from 1993-2003.
