An Indian filmmaker who followed in the professional footsteps of his uncle Mahesh, Kaul is probably best known internationally for his film Duvidha (1975). Eschewing Bollywood excess his films were distinctive and diverse, with other examples including Uski Roti (1970), the music documentary Dhrupad (1982) and Naukar Ki Kameez (1999).
