A former American football star, Karras also found success in the wrestling ring before a late flowering career as an actor. He stole scenes as Mongo in Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles (1974), and also gave eye-catching supporting performances in Paper Lion (1968), Victor, Victoria (1982) and Against All Odds (1984).
