In dividing his time between well-received domestic stage productions and episodes of high-profile US television series, British director Jones made only a handful of films, but the beautifully realised 84 Charing Cross Road (1986) was one of them. Others include Betrayal (1983), Jacknife (1989) and The Trial (1993).
