Jonas Mekas

A Lithuanian director and cinematographer who was an influential figure in American underground cinema, Mekas was at the nexus of New York’s avant grade art scene. He became the first film critic of the Village Voice in 1958, shortly before making his first film of over 60 films, Gun of the Trees (1961).
