In demand on the variety circuit as a deceptively glamorous strongwoman, Rhodes also worked in cabaret and later took acting roles in film and television. She played the recurring character of Big Nell in the LWT series Dick Turpin (1979-82) and appeared in films such as The Elephant Man (1980).
