A British documentary filmmaker who specialised in films about popular music, Marre was best known for his 14-hour Beats of the Heart series (1977-1983) which explored music’s relationship with societies around the world. His other notable work included On The Edge (1992), Soul Brittania (2007) and Otis Redding: Soul Ambassador (2013).
