An actor popular in his native Hungary, Darvas became a star with the film Lilly’s Son (1954). Fame could not prevent his imprisonment after the failed 1956 revolution, but he returned to the stage and later to films in the 1960s, enjoying success with Cold Days (1966) and Love (1971).
