A Japanese animator, director, producer and writer who co-founded Studio Ghibli alongside Hayao Miyazaki in 1985, Takahata’s first feature at the studio was the seminal Grave of the Fireflies (1988). His work included The Little Norse Prince (1968), Only Yesterday (1991), Pom Poko (1994) and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (2013).
