A South African composer whose television work began shortly after coming to Britain in 1946, Rabinowitz worked for the BBC and then London Weekend Television before going freelance. He received a BAFTA nomination for Reilly: Ace of Spies (1983) and later worked mostly on films including The English Patient (1996) and Cold Mountain (2003).
