Although he was a well known actor before playing JR Ewing, Hagman became a global star for his performance as the villainous heartbeat of the popular television series Dallas (1978-91), subsequently reprised in 2012. His breakthrough was quite different, coming in the popular fantasy comedy I Dream of Jeannie (1965-70).
