An American actor best known for his Oscar-winning role as chain-gang leader Dragline in Cool Hand Luke (1967), Kennedy tended to play tough guy roles in the likes of Charade (1963), Airport (1970) and Thunderbolt & Lightfoot (1974). He later found success playing against type as hapless police chief Ed Hocken in the Naked Gun series (1988-1994).
