An American filmmaker best known for his romantic comedies including the BAFTA nominated Pretty Woman (1990), Marshall also directed films including Beaches (1988) and The Princess Diaries (2001). It was in television, though, that he made his name, creating hit shows such as The Odd Couple (1970-1975) and Happy Days (1974-1984).
