Encouraged to give acting a try by his then factory co-worker Clint Eastwood, the two eventually worked together on Rawhide and High Plains Drifter (1973). Donner's film credits included Rio Bravo (1959), Cool Hand Luke (1967) and Vanishing Point (1971). Donner's television work also included seven years on The Waltons.
