Beginning his career in post-war Italy, De Laurentiis produced classics such as La Strada (1954) and Nights of Cabiria (1957). But his name would become synonymous with a wide variety of movies including War and Peace (1956), Barbarella (1968), Death Wish (1974), King Kong (1976) Manhunter (1986) and Hannibal (2001).
