Bryan Cowgill

A giant of British television during his years at the BBC, Cowgill created such sporting institutions as Grandstand (1958), Match Of The Day (1964) and Sportsnight (1968). He was controller of BBC1 between 1974 and 1977, before moving to Thames Television where he enjoyed further diverse and innovative ratings successes.
