Beginning her musical career performing in cinemas during the days of silent film, Coleman became a bandleader in the 1940s heading Blanche Coleman and Her All-Girl Band. Combining live engagements with regular broadcasts on the BBC, they were among the first on air when television was re-launched after the war.
