A director who emerged as one of the leading lights among a new wave of filmmakers in 1960s Czechoslovakia, Chytilova directed features including Daisies (1966) and Traps (1998). Her film Fruit of Paradise (1970) was nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes, and she was awarded a Special Prize for Outstanding Contribution to World Cinema at Karlovy Vary in 2000.
