Carlo Lizzani

Director, Screenwriter and Critic

A critic first and then an actor, Lizzani embarked on a prolific career as a director and screenwriter of Italian neorealist cinema in the 1940s. His best known works include The Violent Four (1968) and Celluloid (1996), and as a writer he was Oscar-nominated for Bitter Rice (1949). Lizzani also directed the Venice Film Festival from 1979-1982.
