A Swiss actor who became best known later in his career for playing Adolf Hitler in Downfall (2004), Ganz had risen to prominence in films such as The Marquise of O (1976), The Boys From Brazil (1978) and Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979). He famously collaborated with Wim Wenders on The American Friend (1977) and Wings of Desire (1987).
