TV newsman Bierman won an award at the 1972 Cannes Festival for his BBC Bloody Sunday report. A principled and courageous correspondent, his postings included Tel Aviv and Tehran. He also worked on Panorama and wrote an acclaimed biography of Raoul Wallenberg.
