Robert Altman
20 February 1925 - 20 November 2006
Director
After his breakthrough with the blackly comic M*A*S*H (1970), Altman demonstrated a terrific versatility in theme and style. Nashville (1976), with its ensemble cast and interweaving storyline, became a trademark, evoked most notably in Short Cuts (1993) and his two BAFTA-winning films The Player (1992) and Gosford Park (2001).
