Much in demand on stage over 40 years, Allen was also a consummate performer in film and television. She was BAFTA nominated for her performance in A Portrait of Marion Evans (1967), with other roles coming in The Prisoner (1967), Bouquet of Barbed Wire (1976) and The Old Devils (1992).
