Ted Childs

Ted Childs served as the Academy’s Chair from 1994-5. During his tenure he successfully dealt with a financial crisis that threatened the future of the Academy. In 1998 he was awarded the BAFTA Alan Clarke Award for Outstanding Creative Contribution to Television.
Ted is an acclaimed television producer, director and executive. Beginning his career in factual production his credits include the acclaimed World at War series. He was instrumental in the formation and subsequent success of Euston Films, where he produced the ground breaking TV series The Sweeney. In the 1980s and 90s at Central Films he was responsible for amongst other series Morse, Peak Practice, Sharpe and Kavanagh QC.
