For her, a job in games media came from being in the right place at the right time, and, perhaps bizarrely, Ginx TV and Gamespot.

For Hollie, games were a passionate hobby that she kept up with while studying to be a midwife at university. Gaming was something she worked on in her free time for Bandai Namco’s VP of PR and Marketing during which she bravely declared her interest in a job was followed by an email, a chat, and a job offer.

Now at Sony, Hollie still has the same enthusiasm for community management than when she started at Destructoid five years ago. From her perspective, players are passionate about the games they love, and want to communicate with fellow fans and the people who make their favourite games. As a community manager she works hard to foster their voices, build excitement and become an advocate for the companies she works for. The rewards are seen in the communities she’s helped build, flourish and grow, to the point where their feedback can significantly influence changes and decisions further up the ladder.
