Noel Clarke received Orange Rising Star Award at the Orange British Academy Film Awards in 2009BAFTA / Richard Kendal

The Orange Rising Star Award in 2009 was won by writer/ director Noel Clarke.

The British public voted Adulthood writer and director, Noel Clarke, the Orange Rising Star in 2009.

Clarke collected the prestigious Award from previous winner, Shia Labeouf, at the Orange British Academy Film Awards on Sunday 8 February 2009.

The Orange Rising Star Award recognises five international actors and actresses who have demonstrated exceptional talent and have begun to capture the imagination of the public as a star in the making.

The Award is unique as it is the only Award presented at the Orange British Academy Film Awards to be voted for by the British public. Voting took place via text and on the Orange website.

Orange Rising Star Nominees 2009 Michael Cera

Since his acclaimed role as George-Michael Bluth in the Emmy Award-winning ‘Arrested Development’, Michael Cera’s career has gone from strength to strength. First came roles starring role the top box office grossing film ‘Superbad’, one of 2007’s most talked about films. Soon after he landed another lead role, this time in the Oscar- and BAFTA-nominated Juno, opposite Ellen Page.

Orange Rising Star Nominees 2009 Michael Fassbender

Michael Fassbender was born in Heidelberg, Germany, to a German father and Irish mother. They moved to Ireland after he was just a few years old, where he was raised before attending London’s Drama Centre. His first major role was as Sergeant Burton ‘Pat’ Christenson in Steven Spielberg’s award-winning ‘Band of Brothers’.

Orange Rising Star Nominees 2009 Rebecca Hall

Rebecca Hall’s first screen role was in the Channel 4 adaptation of Mary Wesley’s ‘The Camomile Lawn’, when she was just ten years old. As a student at Cambridge, she took to the stage, playing many roles including Miranda in ‘The Tempest’ and Martha in ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’.

Orange Rising Star Nominees 2009 Toby Kebbell

Kebbell attended the Central Television Workshop where his talents were quickly spotted by independent filmmaker Shane Meadows. Toby’s performance in Meadows’ ‘Dead Man’s Shoes’ won him considerable critical and audience acclaim, as well as a meeting with Oliver Stone. Toby was cast in a small but pivotal role in the epic ‘Alexander’, alongside Angelina Jolie and more theatre and TV work quickly followed.
