AMPAS’ Foreign Language Film Award

Under Milk Wood

BAFTA is the organisation appointed by AMPAS (the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) to select the UK’s submission for consideration for the Foreign Language Film Award at the Oscars.

Any British film (feature or documentary) that is predominantly non-English language and released in the UK between 1 October 2015 and 30 September 2016 may be eligible.

The Welsh language version of Under Milk Wood (Dan Y Wennalt) directed by Kevin Allen, was selected by BAFTA for the 2015 Academy Awards.

Metro Manila, by British filmmaker Sean Ellis, was selected by BAFTA for the 2014 Academy Awards.

In recent years, the UK selection has included Karl Francis’ Hope Eternal in 2008, Havana Marking’s Afghan Star in 2009, Marc Evans’ Patagonia in 2011, and Sean Ellis' Metro Manila.

If you are aware of a film that you think might be eligible, please contact JimB@bafta.org by Friday 22 July.
