Winners Announced for the British Academy Children's Awards in 2014

The British Academy Children's Awards ceremony took place on Sunday 23 November, celebrating the best film, television, games and online media across children's entertainment in the past year.

The evening’s celebration of the very best talent in children’s media was attended by the likes of Samantha Barks, Myleene Klass, Emma Bunton, Simon Webbe and Steve Backshall.

The show’s title role is played by Cherry Campbell who won the BAFTA for Performer – at just 9 years old, she became the youngest ever BAFTA winner.

Double-act Dick & Dom - Richard McCourt & Dominic Wood - celebrated winning in the Presenter category for Absolute Genius with Dick & Dom, while another of their shows, Diddy Movies, picked up the BAFTA in the Comedy category. An emotional McCourt dedicated his award to his mother.

For the first time, Cartoon Network won the BAFTA in the prestigious Channel of the Year category while one of its most popular shows, Adventure Time, celebrated a win for International.

The results of the BAFTA Kids’ Vote were also announced at the ceremony. Over 200,000 votes were cast by seven - 14 year-olds who had their say in a nationwide poll to choose their favourite film, television programme, website and game. The winners in the four categories were: Frozen (Feature Film), Jessie (Television), Minecraft (Game) and Bin Weevils (Website). Event: British Academy Children's AwardsDate: 23 November 2014Venue: The Roundhouse, LondonHost: Doc Brown-Area: WINNERSThe most prestigious award of the evening, the BAFTA Special Award, was presented to Peter Firmin; co-creator of many beloved children’s television programmes including Bagpuss, The Clangers and Ivor The Engine.

Firmin received the Special Award for his outstanding contribution to children’s media. The esteemed illustrator and puppet-maker was presented the Award by Bernard Cribbins, and received a special introduction from Michael Palin. Learn more about Firmin’s career in this interview conducted by Richard Matthews for BAFTA.
