The Orange Rising Star Award
06 January 09
Voted by the public, the Orange Rising Star Award recognises an exceptional acting talent and a star in the making.
The Orange Rising Star Award celebrates a young actor or actress of any nationality who has demonstrated exceptional talent and ambition and who has already begun to capture the imagination of the British public as a film star in the making.
The Orange Rising Star Award is unique as it is the only Award presented at the Orange British Academy Film Awards to be voted for by the British public. Film fans vote for their favourite Star via text message on the Orange Rising Star Award website.
Duncan Kenworthy, former Chairman of the Academy, said: "The Orange Rising Star Award is the perfect Award to be voted for by the public, as it's the British audience who create film stars by seeing their movies. The Award shines spotlight on the young actors and actresses who are on the cusp of movie stardom and helps bring on the talented next generation of acting talent."
The Orange Rising Star Award was launched at the Film Awards in 2006 and won by James McAvoy , who has since enjoyed exceptional success. In 2007 the British public voted for Eva Green as the star most likely to light up our screens.
The Orange Rising Star Award in 2008 was won by Shia Labeouf. The public voted for the Transformers star from among an extremely strong list of nominees including Sienna Miller, Ellen Page, Sam Riley and Tang Wei. The winner was announced by last year's winner, Eva Green, at the Orange British Academy Film Awards in 2008.
