The winner of the 2008 CBBC me and my movie award in association with BAFTA was been announced at the EA British Academy Children's Awards on 30 November.

13-year-old Leah Cooper from Essex won the CBBC me and my movie award in association with BAFTA, for her short film 'The Prank'. The Award was presented by Blue Peter's Andy Akinwolere and Harry Potter star Bonnie Wright.

After yet another exciting year of free film-making resources, workshops and events in 2008, 13 year-old Leah Cooper from Essex collected the CBBC me and my movie award in association with BAFTA.

Her animated film, The Prank, was selected as the winner out of over 500 entries by a panel of industry experts. All four nominated finalists attended the EA British Academy Children’s Awards on Sunday 30 November 2008 and Leah accepted the Award on stage from Blue Peter presenter Akin Alkinwolere and Harry Potter actress Bonnie Wright (aka Ginny Weasley).

Making movies all year

CBBC me and my movie in association with BAFTA has once again inspired and enabled children to make their own films and tell their own stories.

A collaboration between BBC Learning, CBBC and BAFTA, the initiative in 2008 included free resources, events and an innovative award presented at the EA British Academy Children’s Awards on Sunday 30 November.

The award was featured on Blue Peter throughout the year, with each of the presenters creating their own short film and demonstrating the production process. The project was also been supported by Newsround and CBBC presentations.

More than 20,000 people attended the BBC Learning and CBBC experience at the Mayor’s Thames Festival in 2008 , where children were given the chance to meet CBBC and BAFTA stars giving hot film-making tips, go behind the scenes in the Newsround studio for their chance to be a reporter or camera operator, and have a go at recording their own TV links.

There were also free film-making workshop events across the UK, inspiring children to make their own films, and giving them access to equipment and support.

To be in with a chance of winning the CBBC me and my movie award in association with BAFTA, children between the ages of 6 and 14 were invited to submit two-minute films.

Over 500 entries went through a stringent judging process which culminated in a "Super Jury" of industry experts including Duncan Kenworthy, Freddie Highmore, Hugh Bonneville, Colin Salmon and Blue Peter’s Andy Akinwolere.
