Gregory De Roeck

24 August 11

27 year-old Greg studied Drama and Applied Theatre after which he spent six months with the Royal Court Theatre’s Young Writers Programme. For the last four years he has worked as a freelance researcher for various production companies and in 2010 he co-wrote and assisted director Sara Dunlop on their first short, High.

What first inspired you to write your script?

I wanted to create a character comedy that is controversial, funny and a bit warped.

Which professional screenwriter do you most admire?

If Julia Davis, Sharon Horgan, Liz Brixius & Linda Wallem could merge into one person - it would be them.

Is there a screenplay you have found to be most impactful on your style?

Alan Ball's screenplay for American Beauty. I was 15 when I saw that film and it has influenced everything I've written since. It's a lot funnier than people give it credit for.

What’s your worst habit for procrastinating when you’re supposed to be writing?

Dancing around my flat to David Bowie.
