BAFTA-nominated actor and former BAFTA Breakthrough Paapa Essiedu joined BAFTA Patrons, BAFTA Scholars and bursary recipients at The Century Club on 6 June 2023.

Guests enjoyed fascinating anecdotes from Paapa’s journey into the industry (with a decision to switch his studies from medicine to acting!) and his career spanning stage and screen, including an acclaimed one-night performance in Sam Mendes’ production of King Lear, which saw him step up from an understudy to the lead role mid-show, and his BAFTA-nominated performance as Kwame in the mutli-award-winning I May Destroy You.

Paapa also shone a light on his time as Breakthrough back in 2018, exploring the impact that the programme had on him both personally and professionally.
